The Elkhart County Symphony will “Celebrate Downtown” as it opens its 65th season. The September 22 opening concert will be “Cole Porter and Friends” with guest artist Doug LaBrecque and guest conductor Christopher Fashun. The concert will begin at 8:00 PM on Saturday, September 22 at the Lerner Theatre in downtown Elkhart.

Indiana’s own Cole Porter is the composer of such classics as “Anything Goes”, Night and Day” and “Begin the Beguine”. In addition the concert will feature selections by George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hammerstein and more.

Doug LaBrecque thrilled theatre audiences as the Phantom and Raoul in Hal Prince’s production of The Phantom of the Opera. Since his graduation from the University of Michigan, he has appeared in numerous Broadway shows and in concert with symphony orchestras all over the United States, along with many international performances.

Christopher Fashun, Assistant Professor of Music at Goshen College, is the conductor of the Goshen College Symphony Orchestra, the Lavender Jazz Ensemble and oversees the Music Education program. An accomplished percussionist and violist, he has toured nationally as a jazz vibraphonist and has recorded with several ensembles.
