This concert will highlight Lauren Weirich, Senior Violinist from Elkhart Central HS  and our 2016 Concerto Competition Gold Medal Winner as soloist with the Symphony. She will be performing the Zergunderweisen Gypsy Aires by Sarasate which is a very exciting and technically  amazing piece. A very active student, Lauren is involved with the orchestra and full orchestra at EHS, Color Guard and many other activies. She is the daughter of Kyle and Tracey Weirich, and her performance is much anticipated. Additionally, former winners Maggie Yoder and Andrew Nowicki are both violinists who graduated from Concord HS and are currently music students at IU Bloomington. They will perform the Bach Concerto for Two Violins and chamber orchestra.

The local talent does not end here as we are so fortunate that Mary Rose Jordan Norell has returned to our area and we will hear her magnificent performance of Listz  Piano Concerto No. 1 in Eb with the Symphony. Dr. Norell currently serves as Director of the Goshen College Community School of the Arts, where she also leads her own studio and has started new group piano classes for student pianists and for retired adults. This year, Mary Rose teamed up with Dr. Beverly Lapp of Goshen College to teach group piano lessons in the Piano Pedagogy Lab Program. This experience comes in part from her work as Assistant to Director Dr. Karen Taylor in the Piano Pedagogy department at IU, where she helped young teachers develop pedagogical skills through observing, training, and grading them in their practicum. Mary Rose also serves on the faculty at the University of Northwestern Piano Institute, leading her own studio, teaching masterclasses, and coaching ensembles.

There is tremendous excitement in hearing our homegrown talent  in this great concert which will finish with the very familiar William Tell Overture by Rossini and under the musical direction of Maestro Brian Groner  Learn more about  former winners and how it impacted their future dreams.

This concert is  co-sponsored by Don and Theresa Gunden and a grant from the Indiana Arts Commission through the Community Foundation of St. Joseph County.
